Pence calls for Van Jones's resignation

By Michael O'Brien - 09/04/09 01:24 PM ET

President Obama should demand the resignation of White House "green jobs czar" Van Jones, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said Friday.

Pence argued that Jones, who has been embroiled in two national controversies this week, should lose his job, and said that Congress should have more say over the dozens of "czars" installed by Obama since taking office.

"Given recent revelations concerning the associations and statements of the president's green jobs czar, Van Jones should resign his position and if he is unwilling to do so, the president should demand his resignation," Pence said in a statement. "His extremist views and coarse rhetoric have no place in this Administration or the public debate."

Jones has faced pressure since it came to light this week that he signed a petition calling for an investigation into whether President George W. Bush was responsible for 9/11 terrorist attacks, lumping him with so-called "truthers" who believe the attacks were coordinated.

Jones has denied that he was familiar with the content of the petition, but also found himself in hot water earlier this week when a video circulated of him calling Republicans "a**holes."

Pence said that Obama should suspend the appointments of future "czars" to oversee different policy areas until Congress has an opportunity to examine whether such appointments, without congressional approval area allowed.

"In the wake of these recent revelations, the president should suspend any further appointments of so-called 'czars' until Congress has an opportunity to examine the background and responsibilities of these individuals and to determine the constitutionality of such appointments, which have spanned multiple administrations," Pence said.

Thank you, Congressman Pence!BY Mark Nyreen on 09/04/2009 at 15:07
Thank you Congressman Pence we need some true leadership that has common sense. Why would any President whether Dem or Repub surround themself with this kind on nonsense. What in the world is going on when we have the the far left and the far right controlling the other 80% in the middle? Both the silent Dems and the silent Repubs need to start to speak, we need some common ground, lets get back to the basics that made America great! I didn't serve my country and put my life on the line for this kind of nonsense…BY Jerry Fischer on 09/04/2009 at 15:26
Its NOT about white, black, tan, purple, pink, whatever skin color you are, not about rep. or dem. This is about whats right and wrong and what is or isn't constitutional. Thank you Mike Pence! You are true to your constituents and the constitution. : )BY Heather on 09/04/2009 at 15:39
to CAB,Obama proved he's racist when he spoke of country folks clinging to guns and religion AND when he said white police acted stupidly…if any white man had said that about black folks, the race wars would be on!BY eric on 09/04/2009 at 16:03
Well, I guess there's only allowances for free speech when it is a republicant oriented message. Sad, that this is what the Pence staff is wasting there time with.BY eddy hamilton on 09/04/2009 at 16:06
I cant imagine this crap going on in Washington..Jones should step down he also is disgracing America..its like their susposed to show America has class everything with them is ur picking on me because I'm black..get over it you blacks are more racist than the whites ever were and Im sick of it …I may be an independent but I cant wait until 2010 to get them all the hell out of thereBY SHILO on 09/04/2009 at 16:08
Why wasn't President Obama aware of all these past comments, speeches, and political beliefs made by Van Jones before giving him the green jobs appointment? Is President Obama surrounding himself with other like-minded-people such as Van Jones? Remember, President Obama is also friends with Ayers, a terrorist and murderer! May be the school children in America could help President Obama by writing him and telling him to pick better friends and do intense background checks on his appointees.BY Gale Hanson on 09/04/2009 at 16:17
Hey Cab1030, go fly a kite. A lot of us are sick of people like you and the media playing wet nurse for Obama. Why should he be held to such a low set of standards just because he's black? Huh? His priest was a racist, Van Jones is a joke and an obvious racist, when is enough enough?Obama is the WORST most unprepared President in history. He is AWFUL!!BY Archie Bunker 2009 on 09/04/2009 at 16:38
Good job, Shilo. It's come to the point where I can't enjoy racist, moronic drivel-laden screeds like yours unless they contain misspellings. punctuation errors and self-rightuous indignation slathered in delusion Your side lost the election - get over it and stop whining!BY Pterosonus on 09/04/2009 at 16:39
Van Jones is right if he actually said what the media is claiming he said. The Republicans are a**holes. Most of Americans agree with him these days on this matter. Get over it right wing loonies. The Bush administration, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bolten were far worse than Van Jones and no one demanded their resignation.BY Artgurrl on 09/04/2009 at 16:40
