New trailer previews Frank biopic

The trailer for a new documentary on former Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) gives a glimpse into the private life of the retired congressman.

“Compared to What: The Improbable Journey of Barney Frank” is poised to premiere this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival.

In the trailer released Tuesday, Frank is seen driving around in his 1998 Ford Escort, which he’s had for 24 years and has “only” 87,700 miles on it. “It has the minimum number of moving parts to be a car. If nothing’s automatic, nothing can get broken,” he says of the teal, four-door vehicle.

Frank, the first openly gay sitting member of Congress, is also seen exchanging vows in a 2012 wedding ceremony with carpenter Jim Ready.

“I will miss this,” the 16-term lawmaker says on the verge of his retirement from Congress last year.

The documentary, executive produced by actor Alec Baldwin, debuts on Sunday in New York.
