Lauren Culbertson takes pride in her Southern roots. The Georgia blonde's remedy for a sore throat is something with a little bit of whiskey in it. She calls that doing it "Southern."

Culbertson, who works as press secretary for Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), says she never thought she would be working in politics. She majored in advertising in college, but a friend of hers who worked for Isakson suggested Culbertson join the senator's 2010 reelection campaign.

A year and a half later, Culbertson had traveled around all of Georgia as part of the communications team for Isakson's campaign. When the race was over, shortly before she had planned to take the LSATs, Culbertson got an offer to be the senator's press secretary. She had only 12 hours to decide.

"It was a really quick decision but a really great decision," she said.

Now Culbertson is thoroughly rooted in D.C. She describes herself as a foodie and is really into bar class.

"It's not drinking!" Culbertson is quick to interject. "It's a combination of ballet, pilates, and yoga and small movements. But it has a lot of ballet moves, and you're at ballet bar."

This comes somewhat naturally to Culbertson. She grew up doing dance and was a cheerleader in high school.

But now Culbertson's strategy for keeping her lithe figure is "bar class, yoga and lots of Sweetgreen," she said in reference to the organic health food chain.

When it's time to be a couch potato, Culbertson loves the Bravo channel.

"But sometimes politics can be more interesting than Bravo," Culbertson said. "I love 'The Real Housewives of New York' and 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta,' but home is not really like that."
