House Commerce Committee passes bill to hush TV ads

By Kim Hart - 11/19/09 02:07 PM ET

Rep. Anna Eshoo's (D-Calif.) bill that would require broadcasters to turn down the volume of TV commercials easily passed the full Commerce Committee today. It now heads to the House floor.

Under the bill, the FCC would come up with recommended volume standards. Broadcasters would then have a year to acquire the equipment they need to bring loud commercials inline with those standards.

While your passing a bill to control volume of TV commercials. I wish you would include in the bill, that they would quite displaying such large station logo's on the right side of the screen. The left side is the most annoying when your watching a movie and they have very large adds (5" x 8") on the left. The add stay's on the screen the whole time the movie is on, but when a commercial come's they remove them. If we have to pay such high bill's for Cable TV we should be able to get our money's worth without filling up the bottom of the screen with JUNK. I have a 42" TV and it's quite large at the bottom of the screen. It seem like it started when they went to digital TV???RegardsFrankBY Franklin E. Stiner on 12/02/2009 at 00:12
Hey Frank, quit trying to regulate the free market. If you don't like the stuff on the screen, cancel your cable and start renting the movies.BY Brent on 12/03/2009 at 16:36
