Now anyone can own a piece of former President George W. Bush’s art.
A painting of a cardinal done by the ex-commander in chief is for sale as a Christmas ornament at the George W. Bush Presidential Center's online gift shop. It’s the first item reproduced from the 43rd president’s brushstrokes to go on sale to the public.
The three-dimensional metal ornament costs $30. A product description says the “framed art is an untitled work painted by President George W. Bush.”
Bush told the Dallas Morning News after he created the original painting for a friend, his wife, Laura, chose it as the family’s Christmas card because she appreciated the holiday hues of red and green.
While supplies are limited, the Texas-based Presidential Center ordered a large quantity of ornaments, according to the paper.
The former White House resident, 67, told Jay Leno in a Tuesday "Tonight Show" appearance that he takes weekly painting lessons, telling an instructor, “There’s a Rembrandt trapped in this body — your job is to find it.”
Proving he doesn’t just paint pictures of birds and other animals — dog Barney and his pet cat, Bob, have also been subjects — Bush presented Leno with a colorful portrait he painted of the late-night host.
