Noted Amtrak enthusiast Joe Biden will travel to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station on Thursday to call for investing in the nation's transportation infrastructure, the White House said.
The vice president will be joined at the event by Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. The event will be the latest in a blitz undertaken by the White House designed to promote proposals in the president's State of the Union address last week.
In his State of the Union remarks, Obama called for new spending from Congress "to create jobs rebuilding our roads, upgrading our ports, unclogging our commutes."
"In today’s global economy, first-class jobs gravitate to first-class infrastructure," Obama said, noting that three million American jobs depended on Congress successfully passing transportation and waterways bills this summer.
Obama also pledged to "slash bureaucracy and streamline the permitting process for key projects" as part of his push on executive action.
