Ben Carson, a conservative hero and former neurosurgeon, announced the creation of a political action committee on Friday and said he is "a step or two closer" to running for president in 2016.
“Now is the time to start all of the appropriate exploration and investigation, and put down the structure that is necessary,” Carson told The Washington Times.
The PAC will be called One Nation, the same name as his bestselling book released this spring.
The Washington Times reports that Carson made the announcement after meeting in Florida with fundraisers and strategists for two days. He also announced that Houston businessman Terry Giles will be his campaign chairman if he runs.
