DCCC hits Southerland as a 'Washington insider' in new Florida ad

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching ads attacking Rep. Steve Southerland (R-Fla.)as a Washington insider, the latest sign of a tight race for the incumbent.

"It only takes two hours to fly from Bay County to Washington, but that's plenty of time for Congressman Steve Southerland to forget who he's working for. In Congress, Southerland voted for tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy and handed the middle class the bill, a $200,000 tax break for them forcing a $3,000 tax increase on Florida's middle class.

"Steve Southerland, he's not on your side," the ad's narrator says.

The ad comes shortly after the National Republican Congressional Committee launched its own attack ads against Southerland's opponent, Democrat Gwen Graham, earlier this week. Graham has been giving Southerland a run for his money in the Republican-leaning Florida Panhandle district.

The NRCC fired back at the ad.

"Nancy Pelosi’s campaign arm in Washington will do anything to have its handpicked candidate Gwen Graham elected to Congress. While Steve Southerland has been fighting to solve problems in Congress, Gwen Graham has been promising [Nancy] Pelosi and the extreme liberal Democrat caucus in D.C. that she will be a solid vote for Pelosi’s job-destroying agenda. That’s not the North Florida way," said NRCC spokeswoman Katie Prill in a statement.
