Six GOP House members are in the cross-hairs of a new advertising barrage that seeks to portray them as lenient toward fossil fuel industries.
The Sierra Club will start its mail and TV campaign Wednesday by hitting Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) with a TV advertisement that will air in his district for the next 10 days. The spot says the incumbent’s voting record and $455,000 in campaign contributions show he is too friendly with the oil-and-gas industry. Trey Pollard, a spokesman with the Sierra Club, said the campaign would run through the Nov. 6 election. He said the endeavor is the beginning of a broader organization mission.

That didn't take long. Priorities USA, the pre-eminent pro-Obama super-PAC, is out with an ad using Mitt Romney's remarks that 47 percent of Americans are "dependent on government [and] believe they are victims" to paint him as a wealthy man hostile towards the middle class.

Conservative super-PAC American Crossroads and its nonprofit arm, Crossroads GPS, are launching over $10 million in ads targeting the president in eight swing states and five candidates for the Senate and House nationwide.
The Crossroads GPS ad launched in New York's 1st congressional district race is the first from the nonprofit in a House race. It highlights Rep. Tim Bishop's (D) possible request for campaign donations in exchange for official assistance to a constituent, an issue first reported by Politico that has since become a campaign issue in the district.

An environmental group launched a radio advertising campaign in three swing states this week in hopes of countering a publicity push from oil-and-gas interests.
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) radio spots hit “Big Oil” for promoting expanded drilling in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. Instead, those states should focus on jobs in the clean-energy sector, the advertisements said.
