Nearly 90 percent of people in the United States say there is too much corporate money in politics, according to a new poll from a collection of watchdog and public interest groups. The poll, released Thursday by the Corporate Reform Coalition and conducted by the Democratic-leaning Bannon Communications Research group, asked 804 people their opinions on the role that corporate money plays in political campaigns. Eighty-one percent of those polled felt that corporations should only spend money on political campaigns if they disclose their spending immediately. And 80 percent of respondents said companies should only spend money on political campaigns if they get approval from shareholders. Lisa Gilbert, the director of Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division, pointed to the poll’s results to argue that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) should require publicly traded companies to reveal their campaign donations. “Secret corporate spending is appalling in a representative democracy, and this poll shows that the public agrees,” Gilbert said in a statement.

The Sierra Club Independent Action is targeting Rep. Quico Canseco (R-Texas) for his ties to fossil fuel companies in a new Spanish-language radio advertisement.
The environmental group cast Canseco as obliged to oil and gas interests that have donated $230,000 to his campaign. He is also targeted by the Sierra Club's broader “Toxic Money, Toxic Votes” campaign that hits six GOP House incumbents.
“Canseco accepted tens of thousands of dollars from big polluters and votes without shame to let them spew toxic mercury that poisons our air, our water and the fish we eat — threatening the health of our families,” the new advertisement says.

Mitt Romney’s campaign is out with a new campaign ad after Monday’s
debate attacking President Obama over cuts to the military. Romney’s ad, which likely has an eye toward Virginia, a
military-heavy battleground state, criticizes Obama for $1 trillion in cuts to the
Pentagon that could occur if sequestration goes into effect.
The ad takes footage of Obama saying at the debate that
America is stronger now than when he took office, and splices it with Romney’s
comments Monday night that the U.S. Navy is smaller now than at any time since
1917.
