Two environmental groups intensified their efforts in several House and Senate campaigns Monday , with one of them entering the Arizona Senate race for the first time in hopes of generating momentum for rising Democratic candidate Richard Carmona.
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is spending $470,000 on an ad in the Phoenix media market that ties Rep. Jeff Flake (R) to the uranium mining industry. Majority PAC also funded the spot.
Flake, who began the Senate campaign against Carmona as the front-runner, has seen his lead in polls shrink in recent weeks.

A conservative energy group will keep the stream of pro-coal ads flowing in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia in the coming weeks with a combined seven-figure ad buy.
The American Energy Alliance (AEA) spent $600,000 on a cable and network TV ad that criticizes President Obama’s coal record. AEA, which will run the ad Saturday through Oct. 26 in Ohio and Virginia, also plans to secure Internet space for the ad, spokesman Benjamin Cole told The Hill on Friday.
The coal ad is the latest in a barrage from outside groups and campaigns for both Obama and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney that have saturated the airwaves in coal-heavy Ohio and Virginia.

The GOP super-PAC American Crossroads is out with a new ad attacking President Obama's economic policies and arguing that another term would mean "another four years focused on everything but jobs."
The ad will be in heavy rotation, with $7.4 million behind it over the next week, running in four swing states: Colorado, Florida, Ohio and Virginia.
"More of the same," the ad's narrator beings. "He's demanding tax hikes. Over 2 million small businesses will get higher taxes, 700,000 workers a pink slip, and he wants more spending, just like his failed stimulus. After trillions in more debt with nothing to show for it, we can't repeat those mistakes. Another four years focused on everything but jobs? No thanks."
