Texan anti-Perry Super-PAC files with FEC

By Rachel Leven - 09/21/11 11:26 AM ET

A new Super-PAC that will direct its efforts against Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s (R) presidential bid filed a statement of organization Monday with the Federal Election Commission.

Texans for America’s Future Treasurer Jeff Rotkoff says he started the committee to allow Democratic donors from Texas to make an impact on the national stage.

“There are a number of Texans who are looking to participate in the 2012 presidential election cycle,” said Rotkoff. “So we created a vehicle for them to do so.”

Rotkoff also worked for the Back to Basics political action committee, which focused its efforts against Perry in the state’s 2010 gubernatorial race.

While Rotkoff is unsure of how involved the Super-PAC will be, he believes it can assist in publicizing aspects of Perry’s record as governor the group believes a national audience should hear about.

“In the past, we have focused on issues like the HPV vaccine scandal, the trans-Texas corridor scandal and we want the ability to tell these stories nationally,” Rotkoff said. “If we choose to engage in the election, those are the kinds of issues we’ll choose to talk about.”

Texans for America’s Future is listed as an independent expenditure committee, which allows the committee to raise unlimited funds. The committee cannot make contributions to federal candidates or committees.
