NRSC pulls in almost $5 million in February

By Josh Lederman - 03/19/12 07:22 PM ET

The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised just under $5 million in February, ending the month with more than $16 million in the bank.

The Republican haul falls short of the $5.3 million that Senate Democrats raised in February, and Republicans have almost $3 million less on hand than Democrats.

But the NRSC called attention to the fact that while Republicans are ahead of where they were at this time four years ago, Democrats are falling behind.

"Senate Democrats are significantly underperforming from where they were at this same point four years ago in the last presidential cycle, even though they have even more Senators today, which would presumably mean even more money," said an NRSC official.

Both the NRSC and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee are free of debt.
