The AFL-CIO is expanding a program that will allow volunteers to direct where the union's super-PAC spends its money. Officials with the labor federation told reporters that after an initial soft launch earlier this year, RePurpose will be active in seven battleground states, with plans to expand it further. The program allows volunteers to earn points by phone-banking or canvassing for the labor federation’s chosen candidates and then redeem those points for activism paid for by the AFL-CIO’s super-PAC, Workers’ Voice. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said volunteers’ political field work won’t just be rewarded with “a key chain or a t-shirt” anymore. “They will give our grassroots participants the power to set the agenda of Workers’ Voice. Activists will redeem their points to direct our work,” Trumka said. “Every volunteer that participates in the RePurpose program now effectively becomes the political director of Workers’ Voice.”
