Obama super-PAC nets $6 million in June

By Justin Sink

The super-PAC supporting President Obama's reelection raised $6 million in June, former White House aide Bill Burton said on Friday.

“Last month, we raised over $6 million, which is about $2 million more than we raised the month before, which was $2 million more than we'd raised the month before," Burton, who now runs Priorities USA, told Bloomberg TV.

But the amount is likely to be dwarfed by Restore our Future, the pro-Romney super-PAC. It was already reported casino mogul Sheldon Adelson pledged $10 million to the group in June, and the pro-Romney group averaged donations of more than $12 million per month in the first five months of 2012. That disparity becomes more distressing for the president and his allies after Romney's official campaign also posted June numbers that beat out the president's. Romney topped $100 million in June, and raised $35 million more than Obama.

Democratic Sens. Brown, Tester post strong fundraising quarters

By Justin Sink

A pair of incumbent Democratic senators had strong fundraising quarters, with Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) banking $3 million more than in the second quarter and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) pulling in $2 million during the same time period.

Those are encouraging figures for the Democrats, who will both face reelection challenges in November.

Brown, who is squaring off against Ohio state treasurer Josh Mandel (R), ended June with $6.5 million cash on hand. The incumbent senator is favored to retain his seat, posting a 50-34 percent lead over Mandel in a Quinnipiac poll released late last month.

Warren banks $8.6 million in second-quarter fundraising

By Justin Sink

Elizabeth Warren raised $8.6 million in the second quarter, her campaign announced Monday, offering further evidence of the Massachusetts candidate's fundraising prowess.

The numbers also indicated she hasn't been hurt by the controversy surrounding her Native American heritage. Republicans have blasted her over the issue and she has struggled to explain her roots.

But her fundraising total outpaced her first-quarter haul by $1.7 million, and she has $13.5 million cash on hand. The Harvard professor and consumer protection advocate raised $3.1 million in June alone, the best fundraising month of her campaign.

“Elizabeth Warren has fought hard to create a level playing field for middle-class families. It is those men and women who are fueling this campaign,” said Mindy Myers, Warren's campaign manager, in a statement. “We still have a long way to go until Nov. 6, and Wall Street and other powerful interests are going to continue to send their millions to Scott Brown. But with the power of working men and women in the commonwealth behind us, we will continue to have the resources we need to compete and win this fall.

Roemer and Johnson get more federal matching funds

By Megan R. Wilson

The Federal Election Commission on Tuesday authorized matching funds for two third-party presidential candidates — former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer and former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson.

Roemer received $66,490.99 and Johnson received $130,058.91, paid out by the Treasury Department. The funds come from willing taxpayers: a box on federal tax forms asks if the individual would like to contribute to the Presidential Election Campaign Fund.

DSCC raised $2.5M in three days following healthcare ruling

By Alicia M. Cohn

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) raised $2.5 million in three days following the Supreme Court decision on the healthcare reform legislation, the committee announced Thursday.

DSCC spokesman Matt Canter reported the group "shattered records for number of online donations" in the first day after the court's decision, which held that the controversial legislation is constitutional.

That $2.5 million haul is huge compared to the $5.6 million the DSCC raised in the month of May.

Report: Adelson to donate $10 million to Koch political efforts

By Justin Sink

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson — who famously bankrolled the super-PAC supporting Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign — will reportedly give $10 million to the billionaire Koch brothers' political organizations during the 2012 political campaign, according to a report in the Washington Post.

The pairing of two of the biggest conservative donors is a significant development in the money race  that has enveloped the presidential campaign. Combined, the three billionaires have said they plan to spend around $500 million on the election.

It's not clear where the $10 million Adelson donation — made during a retreat hosted by the Kochs in San Diego last weekend — will go, but the brothers do help fund the Americans for Prosperity, a major player already in the presidential ad wars. On Thursday, Americans of Prosperity announced a new $9-million ad campaign targeting repeal of the Affordable Care Act after the Supreme Court upheld the legislation as constitutional.
