Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) released on Friday his first ad of his presidential run, a radio spot airing in three early primary states.

Santorum's campaign will launch the 60-spot beginning on national satellite radio and later on stations in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina — the states that host the first three nominating contests of the 2012 cycle.

"Someone has to have the courage to go out and tell the American public: We can't afford the government that we have right now, and we need to cut it back, across the board," Santorum says in the ad.

The spot is the first of Santorum's campaign, which formally launched earlier this week in western Pennsylvania. He'll have more time to talk about his candidacy as a guest this Sunday on "Meet the Press."
