Pawlenty gets 'glittered' at San Francisco speech

By Jordan Fabian - 06/16/11 04:07 PM ET

Two pro-gay rights demonstrators showered Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty with confetti on Thursday during an appearance in San Francisco.

When the protesters struck, Pawlenty was seated at a table at the annual convention of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), where he delivered a paid speech about healthcare reform

"Where's your courage to stand on gay rights and women's reproductive rights?" asked a woman who appeared to be affiliated with the left-wing group Code Pink, riffing off the title of Pawlenty's memoir, Courage to Stand.

Both of the women were escorted away by a security guard.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), also a presidential candidate, was subject to a similar protest during a campaign stop in Minnesota last month.
