Bachmann told the group of Jewish Republicans of her arduous but gratifying experience volunteering on an Israel kibbutz in 1974 — a story she detailed in her book, "Core of Conviction," which she released in November.

She promised on her first day as president to move Israel's embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem — a promise that Newt Gingrich also made in his address to the forum Wednesday — and said she had already identified a donor willing to cover the cost.

Bachmann accused President Obama of failing to support Israel but being willing to support the Occupy Wall Street movement, which she said should otherwise be known as "the Obama reelection team." Obama has not endorsed the movement, but has said their frustrations are in line with the inequities he seeks to overcome.

"They want other people to pay for their stuff," she said. "That doesn't work in the United States of America."
