Former Rep. J.C. Watts set to endorse Gingrich

By Justin Sink - 12/19/11 01:53 PM ET

Former Oklahoma congressman J.C. Watts is expected to endorse Newt Gingrich on Monday, according to multiple media reports, earning the former House Speaker another nod from a member of the 1994 Republican Revolution.

Watts, who served four terms representing Oklahoma's 4th district, was a star quarterback at the University of Oklahoma and replaced now-Speaker John Boehner as chairman of the House Republican Conference in 1999.

Since leaving Congress, Watts founded a lobbying and consulting firm in Washington. He has also served as a political commentator for CNN.

Watts provides Gingrich with much-needed establishment support while his once-ballooning poll numbers have begun a dramatic decline in early-voting states.
