Santorum, Bachmann, Huntsman miss Va. ballot deadline

Republican presidential hopefuls Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann and Jon Huntsman won't be on the ballot when Virginia holds its primary on March 6.

The three underdog candidates didn't submit the requisite paperwork and petitions in time for Thursday's deadline, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry all turned in their documentation on time and will be on the ballot. President Obama's reelection campaign filed its paperwork to be on the Democratic primary ballot earlier in December.

Gingrich said earlier in the week that his campaign was scrambling to fulfill the requirements to get on the ballot, after his end-of-the-year surge afforded his campaign little time to up their ground game in Virginia and other states ahead of filing deadlines. But his campaign announced Tuesday it had surpassed the 10,000 signatures needed in Virginia.
