Santorum fades at GOP debate

By Cameron Joseph - 01/23/12 11:02 PM ET

Rick Santorum hasn't gotten a ton of speaking time at Monday night's GOP debate, and has done little with the time he's received.

Thus far, the former senator has failed to land any punches against either Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich and his responses have focused on detailed policy answers rather than the types of memorable attacks that could be replayed on cable television in the days ahead and possibly help him reignite his campaign.

Santorum had an effective debate performance Thursday but it was overshadowed by Gingrich's dominant night, and he struggled last Monday while Gingrich was strong.

At that point it was still unclear which of them would emerge as the anti-Romney candidate. Gingrich seized the moment and Santorum missed the bus. Tonight seems to be a repetition of that performance, and will do little to help him gain any traction in Florida.
