Gingrich ended year with $2.1M in bank

By Cameron Joseph - 01/31/12 05:50 PM ET

Newt Gingrich finished 2011 with $2.1 million cash on hand, campaign finance forms released Thursday afternoon show.

Gingrich raised $9.8 million from the beginning of October through December, but spent $8.1 million during that period.

His campaign announced earlier in the day that he had raised $5 million in January. That would leave him with $7 million for all of his campaigning in January and going forward. He spent heavily in Florida and South Carolina, meaning he might not have much left in the bank coming out out of Tuesday's primary.
