Santorum calls Limbaugh's 'slut' comments 'absurd'

By Daniel Strauss and Erik Wasson - 03/02/12 05:14 PM ET

Rick Santorum hit Rush Limbaugh as absurd for using strong language to criticize a Georgetown University law student who gave testimony supporting President Obama's contraceptive rule.

Santorum was responding to Limbaugh calling Sandra Fluke, the law student, a "slut" and a "prostitute." Limbaugh made the comments after Fluke testified to a congressional panel on contraception.

"He's being absurd, but that's, you know … an entertainer can be absurd," Santorum said Friday on CNN. "He's in a very different business than I am."

Earlier, President Obama called Fluke and told her that Limbaugh had made "inappropriate personal attacks." The president of Georgetown also issued a statement to the institution on Friday denouncing incivility in discussing the contraceptive rule, which requires insurers — including some religious institutions — to cover the cost of birth control.

Democrats have jumped on the comments and tried to tie them to Republican lawmakers, who have begun distancing themselves from Limbaugh's remarks.
