Reid: Romney has gone into Etch A Sketch mode sooner than expected
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday that Mitt Romney has already morphed into an Etch A Sketch candidate in anticipation of the general election.
“The Etch A Sketch is coming sooner than I thought. He’s for education bill, now he’s for [the] Violence Against Women [Act]. Great,” Reid said.
Romney on Monday endorsed a proposal by President Obama to extend low-interest loans for low- and middle-income college students.
Last week, Romney’s campaign said the candidate supports reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act but did not say whether he supported Senate Democratic legislation to do so. Senate Republicans have expressed concerns about some parts of the legislation, which expand the law to include gays and illegal immigrants.
The Senate majority leader was making reference to an interview senior Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom gave to CNN last month in which he compared the former governor’s campaign platform to an erasable sketching toy.
“I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch A Sketch," Fehrnstrom said.
