Daniels warns Romney on negative campaigning

Mitt Romney may have earned an coveted endorsement this week from Mitch Daniels, but the Indiana governor is warning Romney that the current tone of his campaign is too negative.

"You have to campaign to govern, not just to win," Daniels told The Indianapolis Star.

The governor, himself considered a front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination before opting against a run last year, said of Romney's campaign that "political victories that follow 'slash-and-burn' campaigns seldom lead to great accomplishments."

Despite long odds, Paul rakes in campaign donations

One reason Ron Paul is continuing to fight for the Republican presidential nomination: He can afford to.

The Paul campaign announced Friday that it had raised $2.6 million in March alone and some $10.4 million in the first quarter of 2012 — numbers that become even more impressive considering that they came as Paul's chances of winning enough delegates to stop Mitt Romney's nomination became increasingly slim.

The campaign's nearly $1.8 million in cash on hand — and lack of debt — explain why Paul is continuing to spend on advertising buys in Texas and Rhode Island. The congressman is hoping to net a significant number of delegates from his home-state primary later this month.
