MANCHESTER. N.H. — Jeb Bush hit Donald Trump on eminent domain at Saturday night's GOP debate, citing the real estate mogul's attempt to take property from an elderly woman for personal gain.
“What Donald Trump did was use eminent domain to try to take the property from an elderly woman on the strip in Atlantic City,” Bush pointed out when explaining the difference between taking property for public vs. private use. “That is not public purpose.”
“Jeb — he wants to be a tough guy,” Trump laughed back at Bush’s accusations.
Trump then shouted back, “I didn’t take the property,” explaining the woman didn’t ultimately take the offer.
“To turn this into a limousine parking lot for his casinos is not the public use,” Bush shot back.
The issue is top of mind in New Hampshire, where the Keystone pipeline is often debated.
