Rep. Souder holds off primary challenge

By Aaron Blake - 05/04/10 08:00 PM ET

Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.) has won his primary amidst some uncertainty, but he may finish below 50 percent.

Souder led car deal Bob Thomas 49-34 with 72 percent of preincts reporting. The race has been called by AP.

A primary poll taken last week showed Souder with just a six point edge on Thomas, 35-29. Thomas self-funded $220,000 of his own money.

Souder will face repeat candidate Thomas Hayhurst, who ran away with the Democratic primary but isn't considered a top Democratic hope. Souder defeated him 54-46 in 2006.
