Pelosi meets GOP foe at D.C. watering hole

While attending a Young Democrats event Thursday night in Washington, D.C., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) ran into the Republican who is waging a long-shot bid to oust her this fall.

Republican businessman John Dennis said he happened upon Pelosi on Thursday at the D.C. pub the Dubliner. The House Speaker was dropping by a fundraiser for the Young Democrats of America.

Dennis, who has been publicly urging Pelosi to debate him ahead of November, said he appealed to her in person for a debate Thursday night.

After the encounter, the Republican tweeted, "It's a small world after all! Met Nancy by chance in DC! She's at YDA event. Says she's not in district enough to debate."

Dennis made the rounds in Washington this week and met with House Minority Leader John Boehner yesterday in the Capitol.

The GOP long shot gained some attention earlier this month with the release of a Web video that depicted Pelosi as the "wicked witch" of Washington. But there didn't appear to be any hard feelings Thursday as the Speaker posed for a quick picture with her GOP foe.
