Heck off to quick start in Washington, but where will he run?

Heck was one of few non-incumbent Democrats to out-spend their opponents last election. The media and technology entrepreneur spent $2 million including more than $350,000 of his own money in 2010, more than Herrera Beutler's $1.5 million spent.

He has raised more than $230,000 since he announced his candidacy five weeks ago, and transferred an additional $40,000 from his 2010 campaign account. With this start he may convince Democratic redistricters to keep the district competitive, or to draw him into the new district.

The commission is expected to release draft maps in September and finalize the maps by the end of the year.
