Joe the Plumber might run for Congress

By Cameron Joseph - 08/25/11 09:15 AM ET

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, is seriously considering a run for Congress.

Sources told the Toledo Blade that Wurzelbacher (R) is leaning toward challenging longtime Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) in a northern Toledo-based district.

Wurzelbacher gained fame when he questioned Obama before the final 2008 presidential debate about his small-business tax policy, later describing it as "one step closer to socialism."

He had considered challenging Kaptur in 2010 but passed on a run. While the district is currently strongly Democratic, Republicans in control of Ohio's redistricting could make it more competitive.

Should Wurzelbacher run he could tap into a national following for fundraising. He has been involved in many Tea Party events across the country and has made many high-profile media appearances.
