Four Dem women get EMILY's List backing

Four Democratic women campaigning for seats in the House have been endorsed by EMILY's List, the PAC announced Thursday.

Rep. Betty Sutton (D-Ohio), Elizabeth Esty, Dina Titus and Tarryl Clark will all get financial support from the group, which promotes female Democratic candidates who favor abortion rights.

Sutton is facing an incumbent-on-incumbent race against Rep. Jim Renacci (R-Ohio) in a newly redrawn district where Republicans have the advantage. Sutton's district was dismantled during redistricting and her home drawn into the same district as Renacci. The three-term congresswoman announced last week she would challenge Renacci instead of moving to run elsewhere.

The other three candidates are seeking their first term, and were promoted to full endorsements Thursday after having been "On the List," a designation given to candidates the PAC expects to later endorse.

Esty, an attorney and former state lawmaker, is in a contested Democratic primary for the seat that Rep. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is vacating to run for the Senate.

Titus is campaigning to fill the seat that Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) is leaving for her own Senate run against Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.).

Clark, who tried unsuccessfully to unseat Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) in 2010, is now aiming for the seat held by Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-Minn.), a top target for EMILY's List.
