The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee beat out the National Republican Congressional Committee in total dollars raised in 2011, but the DCCC trails the NRCC in cash on hand, according to newly released numbers.
The DCCC raised $61.4 million on the year after a $5.3 million December haul, while the NRCC raised $54.5 million after a $2.7 million December posting. It is unusual for the minority party in the House to outraise the majority party.
But the NRCC has more money for this year’s races: $15.4 million in the bank to the DCCC’s $11.6 milion. That disparity comes largely from the $10.5 million in debt the DCCC entered 2011 with after taking out loans to try to save its majority before the 2010 election. The NRCC had just $2.5 million in debt to pay down. Both parties have now paid off their loans.
