Brat said his victory showed the split between Wall Street and Main Street Republicans, singling out immigration reform as a major reason for his win.
"It's big. It's the most symbolic issue that captures the differences between myself and Eric Cantor in this race, but it also captures that fissure between Main Street and Wall Street," he said.
Brat was considered a long-shot candidate election night, and his win against the powerful Cantor stunned Washington. It seems it may have surprised him as well.
