EMILY's List, a Democratic PAC that supports female candidates who favor abortion rights, has backed state Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D) for retiring Rep. Gary Ackerman's (D-N.Y.) seat.
Most candidates are put "On the List" as a precursor to a full endorsement by the PAC, but Meng was given full backing right off the bat. The endorsement will give Meng access to the PAC's donor base and campaign resources.
“Grace Meng is not just a strong candidate, she’s exactly the kind of fierce advocate for women and families that we need in Washington right now,” EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock said in a statement.
The Democratic primary for Ackerman's seat is expected to be contested. Meng would be New York's first Asian-American member of Congress if elected.
