Bucshon fends off Tea Party challenge

By Cameron Joseph - 05/08/12 09:48 PM ET

Freshman Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.) has held off Tea Party challenger Kristi Risk (R) in his House primary.

Bucshon led Risk by 58 to 42 percent with 79 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press.

The freshman had barely squeaked by Risk in 2010, when they both first ran for the seat. This time he had a major cash advantage, and many of the Tea Party groups who got involved for Indiana state Treasurer Richard Mourdock's (R) Senate race bypassed this campaign.

Still, Mourdock's campaign might have helped Risk — the district encompasses his home base of Evansville, which might have boosted her numbers in the district.

While Bucshon held on, he isn't out of the woods yet. He'll face radio station owner and talk-show host Dave Crooks (D), who won his primary handily, in the general election in the slightly Republican-leaning district.
