League of Conservation Voters targets former Rep. Ciro Rodriguez

By Cameron Joseph - 05/17/12 10:14 AM ET

The League of Conservation Voters is sending out $100,000 worth of direct mail pieces attacking former Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D-Texas) on environmental issues.

"Instead of supporting President Obama's clean energy bill, he sided with big corporate polluters," reads one piece.

Rodriguez narrowly lost his election to Rep. Francisco "Quico" Canseco (R-Texas) in 2010, and is making a comeback bid in the Democratic-leaning San Antonio-based district. But he faces a tough primary against Pete Gallego (D), who has outraised him and is preferred by a number of local Democrats.

The seat is a prime pickup opportunity for the Democrats — The Hill rates it "lean Democratic."
