Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-N.Y.) leads Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney by a narrow 48 to 45 percent, according to a new poll from House Majority PAC and the Service Employees International Union obtained by The Hill.
The poll shows Maloney jumping into a 6-point lead after positive descriptions are read of both candidates. Partisan polls should always be taken with a grain of salt, however.
The former Clinton White House staffer is challenging the freshman congresswoman in a slightly GOP-leaning suburban New York City district that President Obama won with 52 percent in 2008.
The Hill currently rates this race "lean Republican."
The poll of 500 likely voters was conducted July 25-29 by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research and has a margin of error of 4.38 percent.
