Republican super-PACs team up on Medicare attack

By Alexandra Jaffe - 08/17/12 10:43 AM ET

Two conservative super-PACs are launching a robocall effort attacking President Obama's cuts to Medicare.

The effort attempts to tar Democrats in 42 districts with the $700 billion in cuts to Medicare that Republicans say are embedded in President Obama's healthcare reform law.

The robocall will run against vulnerable Democratic candidates nationwide, and accuses the candidate of standing with President Obama and Nancy Pelosi in "cut[ting] Medicare in order to pay for their national healthcare experiment."

It also charges that the healthcare reform law "creates an unelected board of bureaucrats that is empowered" to cut Medicare in ways that will ultimately end the program "as we know it."

The Congressional Leadership Fund and Young Guns Action Fund super-PACs are teaming up on the attack. Both are GOP-backed groups working to maintain and extend the Republican majority in the House.
