GOP Poll: Ben Chandler's opponent in striking distance

By Cameron Joseph - 10/04/12 09:16 AM ET

Rep. Ben Chandler (D-Ky.) holds only a 3-point lead over opponent Andy Barr (R), according to a new poll from the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Chandler leads Barr by 49 percent to 46, according to the poll.

Partisan polls should always be taken with a grain of salt, but the NRCC has been spending heavily on the district and is clearly bullish about Barr's chances. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee hasn't spent in the district, showing it's less worried about the race.

The Chandler-Barr campaign is a rematch from two years ago, when the incumbent squeaked by with a 647-vote win. But 2010 was a high-water mark for the GOP. The Hill rates the race "lean Democratic."
