NRCC goes up against Rep. Cicilline in Rhode Island
Republicans are going on the air against Rep. David Cicilline in Rhode Island's 1st district in the final stretch of the campaign, hoping to boost Republican Brendan Doherty in a race that initially seemed to be breaking for the Democrat.
The National Republican Congressional Committee is spending $280,000 to blanket the airwaves in the district from Oct. 30 through Nov. 6.
The news comes as an independent poll of the race put Doherty just 6 percentage points behind Cicilline, within that poll's margin of error. The district, however, is heavily Democratic, and Cicilline recently received President Obama's endorsement.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is not yet on the airwaves in the race, but that could change in coming weeks.
