GOP picks up North Carolina seat with Meadows win

By Pete Kasperowicz - 11/06/12 10:06 PM ET

Republicans are expected to pick up a House seat on North Carolina, as The Associated Press projected Mark Meadows to beat Democrat Hayden Rogers in the open contest.

Meadows won the seat held by three-term Rep. Heath Shuler (D), who opted not to run.

With 44 percent of the vote in, Meadows took 57 percent to Rogers's 43, according to CNN.

Meadows, a real estate broker and small-business owner, has said he supports a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution, and is backed by the Tea Party.
