Massachusetts Rep. Markey easily retains seat

By Zack Colman - 11/06/12 11:47 PM ET

Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), a senior Democrat and frequent critic of oil companies, has easily won his reelection bid.

Markey, who beat Republican Tom Tierney, is the ranking member on the House Natural Resources Committee. He also is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Markey has been particularly vocal about climate change and advocating for green energy. He co-authored the sweeping climate change bill that narrowly passed the House in 2009 but didn't advance in the Senate.

He has served the state’s 7th Congressional District, which includes suburbs north and west of Boston, since 1976.
