Freshman Rep. Hayworth defeated by former Clinton staffer

Tea Party favorite Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-N.Y.) lost her seat to former President Clinton staffer Sean Patrick Maloney.

The freshman Hayworth, who served on the House Financial Services Committee, was in a toss-up race against Maloney, a former White House staff secretary.

Hayworth proved too conservative for voters in the centrist district, costing her the election.  

With nearly all of the votes tallied, CNN said Maloney was ahead of Hayworth by more than 8,000 votes.
