Rep. Lois Capps wins reelection in California

By Cameron Joseph - 11/07/12 04:41 AM ET

Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) has won reelection.

Capps defeated former California Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado (R) by 55 to 45 percent, with 100 percent of precincts reporting.

The longtime congresswoman faced a real race for the first time in years because her district was heavily altered in redistricting and became a swing district. The centrist, Hispanic Maldonado was a good candidate on paper for the seat, and GOP outside groups spent heavily on the race. But she held on in spite of those challenges.
