Rep. Janice Hahn (D-Calif.) beat fellow Democratic Rep. Laura Richardson (Calif.) in their member-vs.-member match-up.
Hahn led with 57 percent of the vote to Richardson's 43 percent with 59 percent of precincts reporting. The Associated Press has called the race.
The result was expected. Richardson was reprimanded by the House Ethics Committee earlier this year for improperly pressuring her congressional staff to work on her campaign and for using taxpayer-funded resources for personal and political activities.
The redistricting process put the two Democratic lawmakers together in the blue district. Under California's new primary rules, the top two vote-getters in the primary, regardless of party, move on to the general election.
Hahn won a special election in July 2011 to fill the seat vacated Democrat Jane Harman. This is her first election to a full term of her own.
