Ex-Rep. Joe Walsh: 'We may have to shed blood' to 'preserve our freedoms'

Firebrand former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) called for civil disobedience to block the implementation of the Affordable Care Act or new gun regulations on Thursday, paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson to call for a fight against the Democratic positions.

"We may have to shed blood every couple hundred years to preserve our freedoms," he said, paraphrasing Jefferson after arguing the GOP was losing the "war" for voters.

Walsh, a Tea Party favorite who has flirted with running for governor or for the Senate in 2014, said he's "not there yet" on possibly leaving the GOP, and called for fighting inside the party to push it further to the right.

"By May, June, July, August, we're going to have a movement in this state that's going to scare Republicans and Democrats," he said.
