Sister of Stephen Colbert to run for Rep. Tim Scott's seat
Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, will run for the Democratic nomination to pursue the House seat of Sen. Tim Scott's (R), who was recently appointed to fill retired Sen. Jim DeMint's (R) seat.
Her campaign manager, Bill Romjue, confirmed to The Hill Colbert-Busch, who is currently director of business development at Clemson University's Restoration Institute, will file candidacy papers on Tuesday. She will join just one other announced Democratic candidate, local businesswoman Bobbie Rose, who was easily defeated by Scott last year.
Democrats will have a tough time taking the seat, and Republicans already have a number of high-profile names expressing interest in the race.
The deadline for all candidates to enter the race is Jan. 28, and more Democratic names could emerge in the coming days.
