Kuhn airs first ad for South Carolina House special election

By Cameron Joseph - 02/04/13 12:04 PM ET

Former South Carolina state Sen. John Kuhn (R) is up with his first ad of his campaign for Sen. Tim Scott's (R-S.C.) open House seat.

The ad is a gauzy biographical ad, filled with images of him with his family inter-spliced with shots of a church and an aircraft carrier.

"Growing up on my family farm I learned very early the virtues and values of hard work, personal responsibility, faith in God, devotion to my family, love of my country," Kuhn says in the ad. "[I] Built a successful small business, I married my college sweetheart. I'm living the American dream. As your next congressmen I'll live by these values, take some common sense to Washington and really cut the spending. I'm John Kuhn, I'll join the fight and not the club, and I approve this message."

Kuhn, who is self-funding much of his campaign, joins high school teacher Teddy Turner (R) as the only one on the air so far ahead of the March 19 primary. Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R), by far the best known candidate in the crowded primary field, has yet to go on the air.
