NRCC launches 'Liberal Madness' bracket targeting Dems

By Alexandra Jaffe - 03/19/13 10:34 AM ET

The National Republican Congressional Committee has launched a March-Madness-themed attack on Democrats, asking supporters to fill out their "Liberal Madness" brackets by choosing from "32 of America's worst liberals."

It's a play off of the NCAA men's basketball championship this month, and it allows supporters to pick from four pairs of Democratic lawmakers, fundraisers and liberal pundits within four designations: "Liberal Lapdogs," "Backroom Dealers," "Obama Mouthpieces" and "Nanny Staters."

The committee has paired up a combination of top House targets for 2014, like Reps. John Barrow (D-Ga.) and Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.), alongside prominent Democratic and liberal figures, like President Obama and liberal commentator Rachel Maddow, who hosts a show on MSNBC.

In the "Liberal Lapdogs" bracket, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-N.Y.) is paired up against top GOP target Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.), Pelosi for "shepherding ObamaCare and stimulus bills through the House," Rahall for being "coal-killing President Obama's biggest fan."

The person who has the best bracket by the end of the rounds of voting receives a basketball signed by former GOP presidential nominee Newt Gingrich.

“Just before Americans fill out their college basketball brackets, they can join us in making their picks for the worst liberals in the country,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek.

“These 32 out-of-touch liberals really are the tax-and-spend all-star team, doing their best to drive our economy off the cliff.”
