Sanford appears to be the underdog after committing a series of self-inflicted wounds in recent weeks and struggling to get past his 2009 affair. But the district is heavily Republican, giving him a fighting chance for the election.

He has ripped Colbert Busch's record and sought to tie her to national Democrats at campaign stops. With the election a week from Tuesday and more than a quarter-million dollars burning a hole in his pocket, it will be interesting how hard Sanford hits his opponent in the final days of the campaign.
